Trekking in Ngoc Son Ngo Luong Nature Reserve
The Muong Khu Trekking Route is an exciting and adventurous three-day trek that flows quietly through Cuc Phuong National Park (CP) and Ngoc Son Ngo Luong Nature Reserve (NSNL), through the three provinces of Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa and Hoa Binh. The name “Muong Khu” honours the name of the area’s ancient residents.
The nature trail was created in 2009 and 2010 in a marvellously preserved example of limestone forest habitat noted for its high biodiversity and large numbers of endemic species. It represents a significant remnant of the limestone forests of northern Vietnam and is a globally important karst ecosystem.
The walk is 60km long, starting/ending at the Bong Center (Cuc Phuong National Park) and ending/starting at the NSNL NR Headquarters. It can be trekked as a whole or in shorter pieces.
There is also a route shown in blue to indicate the rafting portions of the route. There are several homestays along the trek (also marked in the map), and innumerable lovely places to stop and enjoy the views, especially at the Mu and Mo waterfalls.
When trekking you should always go with a local guide. This ensures visitor safety, keeps traffic on designated routes, and also supports local people by creating new jobs.
You can obtain another map of the route here!, This map has been developed specifically for trekkers and contains detailed information about the route based on GPS information.
